Asst/Assoc Prof-Clinical Track Emergency Med & Critical Care
Job Description
The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care. This position is a Clinical or Tenure Track appointment with the academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will join a team of specialists in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, neurology, dermatology, ophthalmology, oncology, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia, and primary care. Our Critical Care service is in an exciting period of development and we are looking for an applicant who will be enthusiastic to play a major role in the expansion of our emergency and critical care team and share supervision of our combined emergency receiving and ICU services within our teaching hospital.
The duties of the successful applicant include participation in the teaching, service and scholarly missions of the College. The successful applicant is expected to participate in didactic teaching of veterinary students in emergency medicine and toxicology within a dynamic and interactive new curriculum, clerkship training in the emergency & critical care rotation. The applicant is responsible for triage and primary case management of emergency and ICU patients as well as consultation to clients and referring veterinarians seeking critical care for their animals. In addition, clinical service duties include training of third- and fourth-year veterinary students, supervision of house officers on emergency duty, consultation to other primary care services, and leadership of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital Blood Bank and Intensive Care Unit. Research responsibilities will vary based on the track, interest and qualification of the candidate and will include primary, collaborative or translational research to meet expectations. The successful candidate will be encouraged to work with ongoing research programs and contribute to the scholarly achievements of the department. Background check and occasional travel is required.
Required Qualifications
- DVM or equivalent degree.
- ACVECC specialty board certification or board eligibility after successful completion of an ACVECC approved residency program, by the date of hire.
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal interactions.
- Must be eligible for a Virginia faculty veterinary license by the date of hire.
- Occasional travel to attend professional conferences and meetings
