Associate Director, Services for Students with Disabilities

SSD works to ensure that students with disabilities receive equal access to curricular and co-curricular opportunities in the university community, in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008. Reporting to the director, the Associate Director serves as a full-time administrative/professional faculty member. The associate director works to ensure students with disabilities receive equal access to university programs, in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Supervise, train and evaluate a team of professionals responsible for determining reasonable accommodations in university programs and coordinate accommodations services like note taking, alternate text requests, and furniture coordination.
Independently yet collaboratively determine reasonable accommodations for students in university programs in a clear, well-documented, timely, and effective manner.
Effectively communicate with students, families, campus partners on matters of accessibility and reasonable accommodations through meetings, creation of written materials, trainings and presentations
Support the Director in understanding programmatic access issues across the University and when needed fill in for the Director in the Director's absence.
Advanced degree in a human services field like disability services, counseling, clinical psychology, social work, special education, higher education or related field; or bachelor's degree and related experience equating to an advanced degree;
Demonstrated success leading a team of professionals, including the ability to coordinate and assign multiple work schedules;
Experience conducting interviews and interpreting documentation (special education records, audiology reports, psychoeducational tests, psychological evaluations etc.) to assist in determining accommodations and services;
Full understanding of federal regulations including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act and ability to translate these regulations for a lay audience;
Ability to work with confidential, highly sensitive information.
Working knowledge of assistive and adaptive software and hardware systems such as JAWS, Read and Write Gold, Dragon Naturally Speaking, smart pens, FM systems, remote captioning or other technology utilized by students with disabilities;
Excellent verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with campus partners, characterized by cooperation, attention to detail, flexibility and personal responsibility.
Must be a self-starter with the ability to work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment and meet deadlines in a timely manner.
Computer skills required include word processing, email, internet, and basic spreadsheet skills.
Experience in a higher education setting.
