Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Conduct, the Assistant Director of Student Conduct serves as part of a dynamic community of Student Affairs educators at Virginia Tech, dedicated to supporting student development through the Aspirations for Student Learning and ExperienceVT. As part of the Student Conduct Team, the Assistant Director serves as a liaison to Housing and Residence Life (HRL), including building relationships, supporting residential learning coordinators and resident assistants, and identifying opportunities for educational partnerships or interventions. The Assistant Director also serves as a hearing officer for students and student organizations referred to Student Conduct for alleged policy violations and coordinates cases, as needed. In addition, the Assistant Director coordinates training efforts for Student Conduct, in collaboration with the Director, Associate Director, and the conduct team. The Assistant Director supervises one or more professional and/or student staff members.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field; Progressive or varied experience in Student Affairs; Demonstrated experience as a conduct hearing officer; Knowledge of current trends and issues facing college students; Demonstrated experience engaging college students in difficult conversations and/or conflict resolution; Commitment to diversity, social justice, and inclusion; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Ability to problem solve and analyze complex situations; Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate with campus and community partners; Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and to work in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in housing and residence life; Demonstrated experience developing and delivering trainings and presentations for students, staff, and campus/community partners; Demonstrated experience developing programs/events.
