ARRC Research Asst/Coordinator
Job Description
The Center for Addiction Research at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute @ VTC is
looking for a research assistant to participate in research projects that include
investigating the behavioral effects of drug and tobacco use and abuse, the behavioral
processes that may contribute to drug dependence, and the executive function therapy
for stimulant and alcohol users.
The research assistant will serve as part of the research team working both collaboratively
and independently to collect and process patient and laboratory data for research
projects. This position reports to the Project Director.
The duties of the research assistant will include:
- Making significant contributions to the projects assigned and the achievement of the
project’s research goals.
- Administering baseline and follow-up assessments according to research protocols.
- Scheduling appointments for subject clinic visits.
- Administering assessments, collecting urine specimens, and performing on-site
analyses of urine samples during subject clinic visits.
- Assisting supervisor with subject payments, voucher record keeping, and maintenance
of office and laboratory inventory.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential records used for monitoring the study, including
regulatory binders and participant records.
- Conducting file research to gather background information for use by the Principal
Investigator (PI) and supervisor in developing and evaluating research protocols and
conduct literature searches required for the research project.
- Participating in research team meetings to improve data collection processes, to assist
with problem solving and to address protocol issues that arise during the course of the
study.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or related field
- Experience with basic laboratory protocols including proper handling of subject
specimens, data collection, subject recruitment, subject assessments, and data
maintenance.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Experience in data analysis and report writing.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in one or more of the following research areas: substance abuse,
psychology, or clinical trials.
