Area Information Technologist
This position is located Suffolk, VA. This position serves as a member of the Help Desk team of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences IT unit supporting faculty and staff at the college's 120+ off campus locations. This position supports desktop computers and various computer peripherals; provides guidance, training, and technical support to faculty and staff in the use of hardware and software packages, maintaining unit websites, and serves as the primary point of contact for IT related issues for field offices. The Area Information Technologist (AIT) is the primary liaison between field faculty and staff and the respective District Director and CALS Information Technology director, for issues and needs related to IT. The AIT reports to the District Director with input and direction on technical matters from the CALS IT Director who also provides input on performance evaluations.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent level of education and experience. In-depth knowledge of Windows operating systems. Working knowledge of Macintosh OS, Adobe products, and Microsoft Office. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, and configure Microsoft, Apple, and Adobe software products. Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair computer hardware. Experience working with LAN, WAN and WLAN environments, including monitoring, identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving basic network failures. Must demonstrate aptitude and skill for evaluating, testing, implementing, and promoting technologies that meet defined needs of the field client base. Must be able to work independently and effectively, with strong communication and organizational skills and the ability to interact comfortably and courteously with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students. Must be willing to work in a dynamic environment and capable to acquire new skills as needed. Must be able and willing to travel to unit offices.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
