Anesthesia Technician
Job Description
The anesthesia technician is a key member of the anesthetic team at The Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and would work with both the small and large animal departments under the direction of an anesthesiologist. The position is fast paced and requires both independence and a team oriented focus all while maintaining a positive and patient attitude. Strong communication and time management skills are essential while balancing a dynamic schedule and supervising students and their performance during case management. This anesthesia technician position provides the opportunity to support both routine and complex cases from setting up the anesthesia delivery system through completion of recovery. Solid organizational skills are desired for tasks such as organizing and scheduling the anesthetic cases and maintaining departmental paperwork. This position requires a flexible schedule and on call is required for evenings, weekends and holiday shifts. Physical requirements of this anesthesia position include, but are not limited to, stressful situations, prolonged periods of standing, lifting and restraining animals that may exceed 50 pounds. Required Qualifications
Associates degree in Veterinary Technology, VA licensure or eligible to be a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT). Knowledge of anesthesia supplies, equipment and monitoring; Ability to place intravenous catheters and to perform endotracheal intubation in veterinary patients. Must be detailed oriented, able to handle multiple tasks, willing to help without being asked and have strong communication skills. Rabies prophylaxis will be required (provided by employer).
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of veterinary CPR. Experience in anesthesia, emergency or intensive care in a veterinary medical setting. Equine and/or farm animal experience.
