Job Description

The Center for Refugee, Migrant, and Displacement Studies is seeking a qualified and highly
motivated individual to provide administrative support to the director and center
team. Responsibilities include coordinating personnel transactions and paperwork,
maintaining paper and electronic records/databases, preparing correspondence and reports,
planning and arrangements for events, arranging travel and processing payments, creating
documents/flyers, and approving student intern hours.

The Center for Refugee, Migrant, and Displacement Studies is a research center conducting, supporting, and promoting research in displacement. In addition to conducting research on displacement-related topics, we also work with students, faculty, staff, and community members to identify pressing needs to address. With over 70 affiliated faculty and staff, we organize a speaker series, experiential learning and research opportunities through internships and assistantships, and partnerships with local and state organizations.

Required Qualifications

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with students, staff, faculty, community, and other departments; strong organizational and managerial skills; strong editing and proofreading skills; experience with budget reconciliation and preparation of financial reports; experience with current office software for word processing, spreadsheets, email, and databases; ability to coordinate events; ability to understand and apply policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in an academic department or center; knowledge of university policies and procedures; experience with a large relational database such as Banner; experience with purchasing systems such as HokieMart; experience with course management systems such as Canvas; experience with website maintenance in platforms such as WordPress or Wix.
