Accounts Payable Technician
Job Description
Performs administrative support for the Network Infrastructure & Services Business Services Accounts Payable group, inclusive of support for purchasing, accounts payable, travel requests, reimbursements, and Telco vendor billing. Performs purchasing of services, materials, and equipment. Performs monthly reconciliation of NI&S vendor invoices. Performs status tracking of purchase orders from placement of order to receipt of goods or services and payment of goods or services. Processes travel requests, reimbursements and conference registrations. Performs monthly expense reconciliations. Provides input and testing for enhancements of the departmental payables system.
Required Qualifications
- Working knowledge of basic bookkeeping and accounting policies and procedures
- Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work with numerical data
- Ability to perform calculations accurately and rapidly
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse customer group
- Ability to secure, interpret and relay verbal and written information in an effective and efficient manner
- Ability to document, interpret and apply administrative policies and procedures
- High attention to detail and ability to work accurately with frequent interruptions
- Ability to maintain well-organized files and handle large volume of requests
- Must demonstrate skills that support maintaining a professional demeanor in all situations
- Experience with automated accounts payable, purchasing and billing systems in a networked environment
- Experience with spreadsheet and word processing software, email and web browsers
Preferred Qualifications
- AA Degree and/or equivalent level training or experience
- Experience working with higher education accounts payable and finance systems, such as Banner, HokieMart, MicroStrategy and Chrome River
- Experience with University accounts payable policies and procedures. Knowledge of telecommunications applications and technologies
