4-H Program Assistant - Essex County
Job Description
The program assistant will contribute to 4-H Positive Youth Development educational programming for Virginia Cooperative Extension. The program assistant will collaborate with other VCE employees and partners to deliver and conduct educational programming, volunteer coordination and other services to support the needs of the youth.
Assists in planning, organizing, scheduling, and conducting 4-H training for youth (5 - 19) and adult volunteer leaders by providing them with program ideas and materials related to the locally defined needs of 4-H. Attends local, district, and state 4-H program activities and events in the place of the local Extension Agent where applicable. Assists the local Extension Agent by researching and providing information requested by clients. Performs related work as required.
Required Qualifications
Ability to relate effectively with young people and adults from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge and experience in education or in the 4-H program area. Knowledge of the interests and behavior of 4-H program participants. Skill in planning a variety of programs for the target audiences. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access and Publisher), e-mail, telephone, and electronic communications media that is best used to communicate with clientele.
Experience in the use of standard office equipment.
Ability to work independently.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate effectively (including written); excellent phone etiquette.
Ability to adhere to time schedules and work flexible hours.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, City residents and general public.
Requires willingness to learn new skills; ability to work with diverse populations and attention to details.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with program management/coordination, positive youth development, volunteer coordination and creative thinking. Previous experience in a K-12 environment.
Graduation from a two year college or vocational/technical school with course emphasis in human relations and/or youth development or other relevant subject matters and experience in program planning; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
