Job Description

Responds to emergency maintenance and disasters calls during the night shift and adequately accesses emergency situations, reference guidelines, take measures to minimize losses, and contact appropriate personnel if needed. Also responsible for maintaining established standards of cleanliness and sanitation including student lounges, lobbies, stairs, rest rooms, showers, and other interior space. Duties include floor maintenance, dusting, gathering and removal of trash, snow and ice removal from entranceways and sidewalks, collecting recycling, and replenishing supplies. Operates powered and manual cleaning equipment. Reports needed equipment and building repair and any unsafe or unusual housekeeping situations. Responsible for the care and handling of housekeeping supplies, equipment, and assigned keys.

Required Qualifications

Experience in light maintenance, and cleaning of institutional, domestic, or commercial areas. Working knowledge of disaster and emergency procedures; and commercial|/industrial cleaning methods, chemicals, and equipment and safety practices. General maintenance skills. Must have excellent customer service and communication skills for interaction with employees, students, and visitors at a large university campus. Ability to work independently with little or no supervision; mix chemicals with proper proportions from established guidelines; operate both manual and electrically powered commercial cleaning equipment; work a five day work week during the days in the summer and school breaks, works the night shift during the academic year, and as needed occasionally during the day for high customer service.
