VCUarts Admissions Counselor (Non-Benefited)

The VCUarts Undergraduate Admissions team is searching for an Admissions Counselor to recruit new undergraduate students, coordinate and execute a full travel schedule, and support efforts to meet the strategic enrollment goals and priorities of the school and university. This position reports to the Senior Assistant Director of Recruitment & Admissions in the Admissions Office. The ideal candidate has a passion for the arts and a desire to encourage students to pursue higher education. The ideal candidate is willing and able to travel extensively, both locally and nationally, and is excited to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

The Admissions Counselor will hold a secondary position as an Admissions Representative. This position is intended to be used for recruitment travel and is compensated at a different rate than the primary Admissions Counselor position.

Responsibilities:

Recruitment
● Actively recruits and counsels prospective undergraduate students and parents from a diverse background by attending national portfolio days, college fairs, visiting high schools and community colleges and other recruitment events as assigned. Travels both in- and out-of-state including weekends
● Establishes and maintains professional relationships with teacher's, high school counselors, and other academic professionals
● Schedules visits with high schools and community colleges, providing current information about VCUarts programs, the admissions process including portfolio and audition guidelines, and answer general questions
● Reviews prospective students' portfolios and provides them with feedback to improve their artwork and prepare successful application to VCUarts
● Attends on campus prospective and admitted student events
● Leads on-campus, off-campus, and virtual information sessions for prospective students and their families

Administrative:
● Responsible for responding to prospective VCUarts students, applicants and their parents through a high volume of emails and phone calls in a timely, respectful and professional manner
● Establishes and maintains accurate records for prospective students including entering comments and contact information in the CRM
● Submits travel-related pre-approval and reconciliation paperwork in a timely manner
● Assist with competitor research and higher education trends
● Other duties as assigned

Required qualifications:
● Bachelor's degree, BFA or significant coursework in art and design preferred
● Experience energetically and enthusiastically discussing academic programs and visual arts with potential students
● Exceptional customer service skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, complex work environment
● Ability to prioritize work, creatively solve problems independently and use available resources, attend to details and meet schedule and deadlines.
● Minimum of one year working in a college or university admissions or recruitment setting and/or experience working in an art and/or design
● Strong administrative skills and experience working with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Creative Suite
● Must hold valid driver's license and be able to travel overnight for up to one week

Preferred Qualifications
● Experience in higher education, admissions, or recruitment experience.
● Knowledge of VCUarts programs or prior VCUarts student
● Previous customer service and public speaking experience
● Experience with Slideroom, Slate and Banner

Other Position Details:
● The final candidate will primarily be an Admissions Counselor and hired into a secondary job title of Admissions Representative for travel and recruitment to represent the school at special events such as portfolio days, college fairs and off-campus high school visits nationwide
● This is a part-time, year-round position with high and low periods of activity, averaging 29 hours of work per week
● Extensive travel is required. Successful candidate must hold a valid driver's license and be able and willing to travel overnight and out of state for up to one week at a time
● Weekends and evening work is common and expected during recruitment and yield season
● The employee is expected to be based in Richmond, VA
