Senior Research Technician

School of Medicine, Internal Medicine/Pauley Heart Center-PHC


Position Summary:

The Pauley Heart Center {PHC) Imaging Core Lab is seeking a Senior Imaging Analyst to perform Echocardiogram and Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging {MRI} analysis.The Imaging Core lab has been established to support research conducted by both internal and external investigators related to cardiovascular and skeletal MRI and echocardiography. The Sr. Imaging Analyst will utilize analysis methods to evaluate heart structure and function, cardiac perfusion, and tissue characterization {e.g. fibrosis, inflammation, edema) and will be responsible for reporting results to the Core Lab Director.

Core Responsibilities:

- Image Analysis
Analyze cardiovascular, skeletal muscle, and adipose tissue using quantitative mapping techniques and various imaging software (including MEDIS, MIMP, TomoVision and Circle software programs) from MRI and ECHO images.
Complete anatomical and functional cardiac analyses: Ejection Fraction%, Left Ventricular volumes, Left Ventricular mass, Strain, Aortic Distensibility, Pulse Wave Velocity, T1 and T2.
Complete analyses in a timely fashion, prepare results of image analyses into reports and provide to Imaging Lab director or other collaborating faculty investigators.

-Data Management
Transfer, store and manage all MRI and ECHO image files and scans in compliance with University and Health system Information Technology and IRB guidelines, ensuring security of information and confidentiality of research participants. Maintain necessary software and hardware for image transfer and storage.
Prepare and store all image analysis results. Perform reviews of results, identify outliers and seek guidance from Core Lab manager for troubleshooting.
Disseminate data to approved staff and research collaborators as requested by director and in compliance with University research guidelines.

-Support MRI Core Lab Infrastructure

Create and maintain schedules for projects indicating approximate timelines for analysis completion and results reporting.

Attend research meetings to facilitate collaboration with other research personnel at internal and external institutions, coordinating transfer, storage, analysis and reporting of ECHO and MRI scans and reporting on status of image analyses for various research projects

In collaboration with hospital and University IT and regulatory personnel, ensure research data is accessible and protected.

This position will report to the PHC Core Lab Manager and is eligible for remote work.

Minimum Hiring Standards:
-Must have experience performing cardiovascular image analysis
-Must have experience with clinical research
-Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, databases.
-Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management and communication skills.
-Ability and willingness to be a team player and to work independently.
-Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Knowledge of Imaging Software currently in use (e.g. TomoVision, Circle, MEDIS, MIMP)
-Thorough knowledge of cross-sectional cardiovascular anatomy and physiology as well as medical terminology.
