The Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center (MCC), a distinguished National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center at Virginia Commonwealth University, is actively seeking applications for a Research Scientist position within a focused area of Bioinformatics and Machine learning within the Bioinformatics Shared Resource. This pivotal role is dedicated to strengthening collaborative research efforts with program members at MCCC by offering computational and statistical support for the analysis of biological and biomedical data

As an integral member of the Bioinformatics Shared Resource team at MCC, the successful candidate will undertake key responsibilities including driving the development of Bioinformatics infrastructure, providing support for experimental design and data analysis in cancer research, conducting large scale analysis of biological data in relevant areas, and fostering extensive collaboration with researchers to accelerate cancer research endeavors at MCCC and the VCU School of Medicine.

We are seeking an ideal candidate with a proven track record and expertise in bioinformatics / machine learning research, particularly in areas such as high throughput sequencing data analysis, single-cell spatial omics analysis, multi-omics integration, biomedical imaging analysis and precision medicine. Preference will be given to applicants whose research focuses on cancer and other chronic diseases. The incumbent should demonstrate a history of research productivity and independence. Additionally, experience in cultivating a diverse and inclusive team environment among faculty, staff, and students is highly valued.

Minimum Hiring Standards:
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Biostatistics, Statistics, Biomedical Informatics, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in bioinformatics data analysis.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R, with a focus on bioinformatics applications.
Preferred Hiring Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience with machine learning and AI algorithms, particularly in the context of bioinformatics.
  • Proficiency in large-scale omics data analysis and integration techniques.
  • Proven ability to integrate and analyze multi-omics and clinical datasets effectively.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with relevant software and tools commonly used in bioinformatics research.
Salary Range: 100K-125K- Commensurate with experience
