Position Responsibilities:

The selected applicant will perform following duties as technical specialist in Department of Surgery research laboratories. Working with PI's and other laboratory personnel to perform required experimental procedures involving the use of animal models of disease. Proficient in myocardial mitochondrial isolation, quantitative and qualitative functional analysis is required. We will train the candidate for these skill sets if necessary. In addition, the position involves good care of laboratory equipment and space, order reagents and consumables, coordinating the use of the laboratory space and instrumentation, organizing storage of the biological samples, animal ordering. Sample processing includes, but is not limited to, plasma isolation from blood, tissue sample fixation and embedding in paraffin. The position requires familiarity with animal research, preparation of surgical instruments, surgical field, animal care and handling, preparation of animals for surgery, post-operative care of the animals, dispensing anesthesia/analgesia, institutional record keeping, daily monitoring of animals after surgery, performing behavioral assays (motor, cognition, and pain), delivery of experimental drugs, and assist in preparing the animals for in vivo MRI and ultrasound imaging. Knowledge of molecular biology techniques, like western blotting, DNA/RNA extraction from tissue and cells, qPCR, tissue sample sectioning, double-labelled florescent immunohistochemistry, light, fluorescent and confocal microscopy, cell culture, and data entry into Microsoft Excel. Should have keen interest and industry in disseminating the laboratory work into published material. Should be proficient in use of software (power point, adobe, EndNote) to conform the manuscripts to match particular Journal's stipulations. Attention to the details is a requisite.

Required Qualifications:

PhD in a related field.
