About CARA

The VCU Cohort and Registry Administration (CARA) Core houses prominent research registries, which are some of the largest in the country – the Mid-Atlantic Twin Registry (MATR) and Spit for Science (S4S). These registries carry out research functions for internal and external investigators and support VCU's national prominence in research. CARA Core services include data and sample collection via mail, email, phone, and in-person methods as well as providing access to secondary data for qualified investigators.

Position Description

The CARA Core is currently seeking to hire an hourly Participant Specialist to support a variety of tasks across the registries. The CARA Participant Specialist will be responsible for conducting participant lookups, accurately entering participant contact information into different platforms, processing outgoing and incoming mail, fielding participant inquiries via email or phone calls, working closely with the CARA team members to support research tasks as needed, data entry and data cleaning tasks, as well as active coordination of and involvement in participant events aimed to promote the registries, collect data, and collect DNA from participants. This position will handle confidential data and requires attention to detail. The CARA Participant Specialist may also support special projects and initiatives for the CARA Core.

Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinate research projects, develop online surveys on REDCap or other platforms, develop IRB submissions related to the registries or research projects, provide compensation to research participants, and send communications to research participants including survey invitations and responses to emails.
  • Support secondary data access for the registries by coordinating the review of data access requests, providing access to datasets, working with CARA team members to develop and update supporting documentation for datasets, fielding emails from collaborators, carrying out requirement checks for research products coming out of registry data, and tracking registry impact for reporting purposes.
  • Support of special projects and initiatives for the CARA Core.
Minimum Hiring Standards:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Equivalent education or experience may substitute for stated requirements
  • Ability to balance, negotiate, and interact effectively with others, work independently, and multitask to accomplish all work in a timely manner
  • Ability to work discreetly with confidential data
  • Excellent written and oral communications, including timely, accurate writing, editing, and collaborative work on documents

  • Proficiency with Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe
  • Organized, quick learner, adaptable, creative, attentive to detail, and dedicated

Salary Range: $17-$20/hr
