The Department of Forensic Science at Virginia Commonwealth University (http://forensicscience.vcu.edu/) invites applications for a Laboratory Manager to manage instructional equipment and instrumentation in laboratory spaces and coordinate instructional efforts involving shared equipment and instrumentation within the department.

Job-Specific Duties

•Maintaining a QA system for instructional laboratory spaces;
•Performing QC on existing equipment/instruments;
•Conducting student/faculty training, maintaining schedules for instrument use;
•Coordinating repair/maintenance for instructional equipment/instrumentation;
•Overseeing environmental health and safety compliance;
•Assisting with the development of instructional modules;
•Maintaining inventories of all instructional spaces semi-annually.
•Management of instructional lab access/use,
•Order and maintain instructional laboratory supplies,
•Manage all instructional digital assets, and
•Participate in departmental meetings and engagements events and provide additional job-related duties as requested.

Job-Specific Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications
•B.S. with professional experience in Forensic Science or an applied scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, etc.).
•Must have experience with laboratory and digital asset management as well as familiarity with forensic laboratory protocols, equipment, and quality assurance protocols.
•Must also demonstrate a commitment to working with students, staff, and faculty of diverse backgrounds while fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications
•M.S. with at least two years professional experience in Forensic Science or an applied scientific discipline (e.g., Biology, Chemistry, etc.).
•Minimum of two years of hands-on (instrument-driven) laboratory experience and prior experience with instruction and/or research within an academic environment.

Job-Specific Physical and Cognitive Requirements

Physical Demands
•May require lifting and carrying of laboratory equipment and supplies up to 50 lbs
•May require standing or sitting for extended periods of time

Working Conditions
•The laboratory manager will work primarily in a laboratory setting, which may involve exposure to biohazardous materials and chemicals
•May require some evening and weekend work in line with research participant availability

Salary Range: $65,000 to $90,000
