The Department of Computer Science at University of North Carolina Wilmington seeks an outstanding applicant to fulfill the role of Application and System Administrator for our unit.
This position is responsible for the following duties:
Graduate from a 4-year college with a concentration in computer science, cybersecurity, computer engineering, information technology, or related areas.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Master's degree from an accredited institution in computer science, information technology, and/or related fields and 2-4 years work related experience desired.
No required certifications or licensure.
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Department is on an upward trajectory, with annual research expenditures growing to an average of $1M/year over the last three years. Research strengths include machine learning and AI, biometrics, virtual reality and digital arts, computer and network security, mobile computing, and computer science education.

The Department of Computer Science at University of North Carolina Wilmington seeks an outstanding applicant to fulfill the role of Application and System Administrator for our unit.
This position is responsible for the following duties:
- Must adhere to university standards and best practices.
- Ensures compliance with all IT policies, procedures, and standards including change management.
- Ensures all critical systems and applications under purview receive security patches and vulnerability remediations in a timely manner according to the best practices and documented standards and procedures.
- Maintains accurate inventory of systems, applications, and data and provide to ITS at least annually.
- In consultation with IT security, ensure all critical systems have security monitoring, logging, alerting and scanning enabled and maintained using the campus approved tools.
Graduate from a 4-year college with a concentration in computer science, cybersecurity, computer engineering, information technology, or related areas.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Master's degree from an accredited institution in computer science, information technology, and/or related fields and 2-4 years work related experience desired.
- Cloud computing, NoSQL database technologies, OpenStack, ArcGIS product suite, Full stack Research computing, HPC, AI/Deep learning, machine learning. Application stacks: Python, LAMP, MERN., MEAN, JAVA, JAVASCRIPT, C++, MATLAB, PSPICE (Arduino).
- Must be able to work independently. Experience with managing user accounts (students/faculty/staff). Experience with Linux server (LAMP), networking, server, and storage hardware, MS Windows (server and client), distribution lists, Linux, OS X, UNIX skills, and MAC clients. Experience with servers, workstations, networking, and storage hardware (various vendors); and experience with major network protocols (DNS, DHCP, LDAP, SSH, and HTTP).
