Job Description

Carrying out complex laboratory experiments including: fruit fly maintenance and care, DNA and RNA sample preparation, coordinating experimental evolution of fly populations, developing physiological assays. (40%)

Experiment and data management including: maintaining a detailed lab book, organizing and keeping records about data storage for the lab's projects, collating and organizing protocols, experimental plans, data collection sheets, and collaborative work schedules (15%)

Management of the research team including: providing assistance and training for incoming trainees, coordination of projects involving collaboration between lab members, participation in lab and research meetings (25%)

General laboratory tasks including: preparing reagents, ordering and re-stocking supplies, ensuring laboratory compliance for lab safety (10%)

Other job duties and tasks as assigned (10%)

Occasional flexibility in the typical work schedule may be necessary for some experiments (e.g. occasional brief weekend hours, etc.)

Performs routine analytical assignments using existing procedures

Prepares studies and reports that assist senior level associates

Performs a variety of specialized or complex procedures and makes recommendations for improvement/efficiency, as necessary

Assists in the coordination of quality control procedures within the research function

Uses existing procedures to solve standard problems

Researches and analyzes information and uses standard practices to make informed judgments and recommendations

Has limited impact on own work team

Works within standardized procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines

Exchanges straightforward information, asks questions, and checks for understanding

Coordinates external projects with other departments

Develops working relationships with internal parties and may work with external parties, as needed

Shift

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Graduate degree (Master's or higher) in Biological Sciences or a related field. Experience with experimental design, basic molecular biology techniques (e.g. pipetting, preparing solutions), and working on a team.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $51,875-$66.810 annually

Grade: GGS 9E
