The United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia seeks a Human Resources Technician to provide a full range of administrative and technical support for human resources programs and activities in accordance with approved procedures, policies, and internal controls. The Human Resources Technician is a member of the shared administrative services team that provides support for the 8 judicial officers and approximately 116 employees of the Western District of Virginia’s six divisional offices (Abingdon, Charlottesville, Danville, Harrisonburg, Lynchburg, and Roanoke). Occasional travel, including overnight, within and outside the district is required.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
• Assist with processing a variety of human resources and payroll actions such as appointments, promotions, separations, terminations, within grade increases, and changes to benefits elections. Assist with processing activities for the intern/extern program.
• Assist with recruitment efforts, such as preparing and distributing vacancy announcements, coordinating interviews, and conducting reference checks. Assist in administering background investigation checks and issuing credentials and identification cards.
• Maintain and monitor human resources records, including payroll and leave records, using the Human Resources Management Information System (HRMIS), ensuring accuracy, and adhering to national and district guidelines. Enter and track time sensitive data. Maintains leave and timekeeping records.
• Assist with benefits program coordination including maintaining and distributing benefits materials, processing forms, and addressing routine benefits questions and resolving benefits issues.
• Assist with employee recognition programs and coordinating human resources-related events. Communicate human resources policy information.
• Collect data for required reports and audits, such as fair employment practices.
• Assist with training activities, such as coordinating and scheduling training, maintaining training records, and scheduling resources (e.g., meeting rooms, web-based resources, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant must have one (1) year of progressively responsible experience in clerical or administrative work that provides knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures, and practices of human resources administration, and involved in the routine use of automated human resources systems and other automation systems such as word processing, spreadsheets, or database applications.
