Position Description – The Systems Administrator coordinates and oversees the Court’s Linux servers including performing routine administration and implementation of complex updates. The incumbent performs technical work related to designing, modifying, and adapting existing Linux system software, as well as complex troubleshooting for hardware and software systems. The Systems Administrator analyzes the needs of end-users, develops software solutions, and collaborates with supervisors and colleagues on the implementation of changes. The incumbent also provides Help Desk support and coordinates the disposal of excess IT equipment. The position is full-time and located in Washington, D.C.
Qualifications – Candidates must show experience that demonstrates the ability to: (1) understand the theories, principles, practices and usage of computer hardware and software; (2) perform hardware and software maintenance and troubleshooting; (3) write program documentation; (4) effectively communicate with others both verbally and in writing; (5) show attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks; and (6) be flexible, work well under pressure, maintain a positive attitude, and meet deadlines.
Education and Experience – Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree. Must have at least three years of general experience and three years of specialized experience including at least one year equivalent to work at the CL 27 level. Specialized experience should demonstrate the possession of the skills required to perform the duties of the position, specifically administering a Linux operating system.
Salary – CL 28 ($69,049 - $112,264) depending on qualifications.
Conditions of Employment – Applicants must be a United States citizen or eligible to work in the United States. Employees of the federal courts are excepted service appointments. Excepted service appointments are “at will” and may be terminated with or without good cause by the Court. The candidate selected for the position will be hired provisionally pending the results of a background investigation. Direct deposit of pay is required.
