Transit Accounting Technician II F/T
- General Definition of Work
Performs intermediate technical work preparing and processing accounts payable, purchasing, payroll, and other financial records and files, reconciling accounts, preparing and maintaining computerized records system, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Transit Senior Grant Coordinator.

Essential Functions
Maintains payroll hours for the department; reviews payroll and check distribution for accuracy and completeness.
Processes and reconciles accounts payable and purchase orders.
Processes purchase order requisitions and stock requisition.
Assists with fare collection, cash deposit processing and related recordkeeping.
Maintains accounts payable, personnel and travel files.
Reviews and processes weekly credit card purchases for department credit cardholders.
Assists with capital drawdown process, annual budget entry, travel planning and other assigned accounting duties as necessary.
Provides information and answers questions to internal staff as well as external customers regarding financial issues and concerns.
Develops and maintains strong working relationships with departmental staff, and Town of Blacksburg personnel within the finance, purchasing and human resources offices.
Assists the Finance Manager and Senior Grants Coordinator with other projects as needed.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures; general knowledge of accounts payable practices and procedures; basic knowledge of payroll policies and practices; general knowledge of bookkeeping terminology, methods, procedures and equipment; general knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; ability to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy; ability to meet deadlines; competent in computer operations and proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite of applications, especially Excel and Outlook; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, associates and the general public.
Education and Experience
Associates/Technical degree with coursework in business administration or accounting, or related field and one or more years’ experience working in accounting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia with a satisfactory driving record.
- Physical Requirements
This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking, sitting, speaking or hearing, frequently requires using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires standard and close vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and operating motor vehicles or equipment; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic)
