Human Resources Specialist
- General Definition of Work
The Human Resources Specialist performs skilled work with Human Resources department, to include: managing the recruitment life cycle, new hire processing, facilitation of orientation and onboarding, assist with the training and development processes, as well as general office support. This position will also plan and coordinate employee events (e.g. employee picnic, holiday luncheon, and social events) and morale booster activities. This position requires exemplary customer service skills, ability to meet deadlines, a person who is detailed oriented, and ability to handle confidential information. This position is under the direct supervision of the Senior Human Resources Generalist.

- Management of NEOGOV platform for hiring and recruitment
- Work with departments to develop, maintain and modify job descriptions.
- Conduct recruitment efforts for personnel; conduct pre-employment process, as needed
- Support local recruiting and outreach efforts in coordination with departmental hiring needs in an efficient and effective manner to ensure a positive candidate and hiring manager experience.
- Facilitate all new hire onboarding and orientation processes
- Work in conjunction with Human Resources Manager to identify organizational training needs and coordinate training programs.
- Plan and coordinate event planning for employee events such as employee picnic, holiday luncheon, morale booster activities and other social events.
- Administrative support of office, as needed.
- Participate in meetings as required.
Education and Experience- High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three (3) years of related work experience in HR, or higher education degree and one (1) year of related work experience in Human Resources.
- Valid commercial driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia with a satisfactory driving record
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven, high quality customer relationship (internal and external) skills
- Experience with Human Resources Information Systems
- Knowledge of applicant tracking systems, such as NEOGOV
- Strong working knowledge with HR concepts, practices, procedures and basic employment laws required.
- Ability to develop goals, objectives, and systems as it relates to recruiting life cycles
- Experience with training concepts, creation and administration
- Problem-solving abilities
- Supportive, positive attitude with a detail oriented demeanor applied to all tasks
- Ability and willingness to work as part of a team or independently and have the drive to take on a variety of tasks and projects
- Experience with organization of events and activities in a business setting
- Excellent organization, communication (both written and verbal), and interpersonal skills required
- Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Windows, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and other computer programs and software normally used by Human Resources
- Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Physical Requirements
Work Environment: This job primarily operates in a general office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copiers/fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently interacts with staff, providers, and the general public in person and via telephone and email.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to sit for prolonged periods of time, at a desk, utilizing a computer and reviewing online and paper documents. The employee will also have occasion to be involved in physical activity in preparing for and working outreach events both in indoor and outdoor settings. The employee will also be required to lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally life and move up to 50 pounds.
