General Definition of Work

As a Field and Court Supervisor, you would be performing intermediate work supervising and monitoring the facilities/grounds of Parks and Recreation sponsored activities/events and their attendees. You would also oversee the distribution and collection of Recreation equipment and information as needed. On occasion, you could be called to substitute for Sports Officials, Scorekeepers and/or Clock keepers when necessary. To thrive in this role, you would be able to exhibit upstanding leadership qualities in supervising, monitoring, and communicating effectively and in a positive manner, in efforts to deescalate potential incidents with coaches, parents, players, and attendees. You would be responsible for insuring a continual open line of communication with the Parks and Recreation department, including recording, preparing, and sending accident/incident reports as needed. 


Monday - Friday: 5:30pm - 8:00pm 

Saturday: 8:30am - 3:00pm

  • Checks assigned field and/or court for safety hazards or maintenance needs to assure that sports/recreation equipment and/or field(s) or court(s) are in safe condition; 
  • Exhibits upstanding behaviors representative of those in a role of leadership
  • Verbally communicates effectively with parents, coaches and participants
  • Prepares written accident and/or incident reports. 
  • Helps to maintain the cleanliness and safety of your assigned location.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Effective communication skills

  • Ability to substitute for staff at your site

  • Basic knowledge of First Aid and safety precautions 

  • Ability to operate a personal cell

  • Ability to keep records of reports, scores and results

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public 

  • High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in the supervision and sports and/or recreation experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Valid commercial driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia with a satisfactory driving record.

Physical Requirements

This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 20 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; observing general surroundings and activities; work regularly occasionally requires exposure rain, wind and high temperature conditions.
