Construction Site Inspector F/T
- General Definition of Work
Performs intermediate technical work coordinating, supervising and conducting construction inspections to ensure compliance with plan, specifications and standards, coordinating construction activities between the Town and contractors, preparing and maintaining detailed records and files, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the direction of the Engineering Field Supervisor.

Inspects development construction sites, utilities roadway and related public improvements and Erosion and Sediment control measures daily for compliance.
Inspects public infrastructure projects such as sidewalks, trails, drainage improvements, and minor roadway improvements.
Observes tests of utilities to be accepted by the Town for operation and maintenance.
Reviews development and site improvement plans for compliance with town code and constructability.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and considerable experience in construction inspection work, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of construction practices, techniques, materials and equipment relating to public improvement projects; thorough knowledge of engineering plans, specifications and drawings; thorough knowledge of erosion and sediment control standards and regulations, wetland ordinances, thorough knowledge of land grading, construction, water quality issues and soil and water conservation; ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and blueprints and to compare them with various aspects of construction in progress; ability to detect errors in construction projects; ability to maintain accurate records; ability to effect satisfactory compliance with specifications and standards; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with developers, contractors, property owners, associates and the general public.
Special Requirements
Possession of Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector certification within one year of employment.
Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as satisfactory driving record.
Days and Hours of Work
Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Physical Requirements
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel and occasionally requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling, lifting and repetitive motions; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, using of measuring devices, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles and exposure to the risk of electrical shock; work is equally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic) and active construction site.
