Firefighter / Fire Code Official Technical Assistant
The Town of Abingdon, Virginia is currently taking applications for the position of full-time Firefighter / Fire Code Official Technical Assistant. The position operates under the direct supervision of the Fire Chief. This employee will perform firefighting duties in accordance with the job description, special and routine maintenance of equipment, apparatus and routine care of buildings and grounds, public education activities and inspect structures and premises in accordance with the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code. Work at the fire station and scenes of fires, is performed under supervision in accordance with well-defined procedures. Starting annual salary $32,640.
Applicants must have at least 3 years of experience and general knowledge in at least one of the following areas: fire protection, firefighting, electrical, building, plumbing or mechanical trades, possess a high school diploma or GED, be in good physical condition, possess a valid Driver's License and possess Firefighter Level II and EVOC 1, 2 and 3 certifications from the Virginia Department of Fire Programs.
Applicants must also possess or obtain certification as a Technical Assistant to enforce the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code in accordance with the Virginia Certification Standards (13VAC5-21) within 1 1/2 years after permanent appointment as a Technical Assistant.
