Job Description:
Position Available: Janitor (Evening Shift), SG-07, Line # 05702
Location: SUNY Old Westbury - Facilities/Custodial
Salary: $36,040.00 - $44,531.00, plus $3,087.00 location pay
Shift: Monday through Friday, 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM, Different hours may be required from time to time to meet the operating needs of the College.
Status: Permanent, Full-time

Duties:
As per Civil Service Standards but particularly responsible for cleaning and unskilled maintenance tasks and supervise lower-level cleaning staff responsible for cleaning and upkeep of assigned areas in buildings, and surrounding grounds and walkways.
Duties include but not limited to the following: performs a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and care activities in the assigned area including mopping, washing, dusting, polishing, vacuuming, moving and setting up furniture, emptying trash, recycling, and other related duties; performs unskilled repairs and maintenance work such as hanging pictures, curtains, and blinds; fixing or replacing broken shelves and door knobs, replacing light bulbs, and dusting or washing light fixtures; polishes wood and metal surfaces, fixtures, furniture, and equipment; performs routine maintenance on manual and motorized cleaning and maintenance equipment; use of appropriate equipment such as ladders and scaffolds to clean high places such as ceilings, windows and light fixtures; unplug toilets, traps, or sinks; and other unskilled maintenance and repair work as assigned. Sets up equipment and seating facilities for public meetings, classes, graduations, and special events. Requisitions and dispenses cleaning supplies and equipment; and monitors and maintains inventories. Reports and recommends repairs and maintenance tasks requiring skilled trades work to supervisor. Overseas distribution, collection, and storage of building keys. Supervises subordinate custodial personnel in the cleaning and care of an assigned area by assigning specific tasks, providing instructions, making sure the work is completed according to custodial program specifications, as needed.

As per Civil Service Standards. There are no educational or experience requirements. Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and understand and carry out written and oral instructions. Training provided. When required to operate a motor vehicle, applicant must possess and keep a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. The applicant must have and keep a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.
