Perform professional level work in the GIS Field. Assist with research and analysis, perform queries, reports and analyze spatial data. Develop and update various maps for exhibits, reports and meetings at different scales and layouts through the use of GIS/ desktop software (ArcGIS). Work with staff on the development and maintenance of GIS data in the Enterprise geodatabase (SQL Server/Esri SDE). Utilize ArcGIS Online and Enterprise Portal to create web maps, web applications, dashboards, etc... to solve problems and answer questions. Develop a portfolio to show future employers and gain knowledge and insight from seasoned GIS professionals.

Work with GIS Analyst I and II in meeting the County Department's business needs utilizing the County's Enterprise GIS Services. Employee is guided by the GIS Manager, but works independently to design, develop, test and implement projects. Performs related duties as required.


• Create web maps and applications.
• Help update Enterprise GIS Services data layers.
• Input data into geographic information system.
• Create, edit, and query data.
• Perform quality control analysis on Enterprise GIS Services.
• Define production specifications such as projection, scale, size, and colors.
• Provide guidelines for source material to be used such as maps, automated mapping products, photographs, survey data, and place names.
• Examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to standards and specifications.
• Provide field and office global positioning system (GPS) support.


Required: Completion of the eleventh grade in High School.

Preferred: Graduation from High School or equivalent. Pursuing an associates, bachelor's, or master's degree in Geographic Information Systems. Completion of at least 10 credit hours towards a degree with emphasis in Geographic Information Systems related field.

Required: Experience working with computers and technology. Eager to learn and collaborate with others.

Preferred: At least one-year related experience and/or training
in Geographic Information Systems using ESRI ArcGIS Core Suite of Software Products or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications/ Licenses
Required: Valid Virginia driver's license with good driving record.

  • Ability to work independently and proactively to take initiative to solve complex problems
  • Demonstrated experience in/knowledge of in the use and application of the Microsoft Office suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Analytical experience utilizing ESRI's ArcGIS Core Suite of software and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience.
  • Work is accomplished through teamwork.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and staff.
