Performs responsible clerical and administrative work supervising the front desk operation of the Roanoke County Administration Center. Manages daily administrative operations and oversees greeting and directing citizens and employees. Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Delivers uncompromising customer service, engaging immediately with customer requests, inquiries, and concerns in the entrance lobby.
  • Performs security checks of building grounds, floors and stairwells.
  • Works directly with customers by telephone and in person, while demonstrating good communication skills in a warm and friendly manner.
  • Checks in visitors, verifies eligibility to restricted areas, and communicates facility policies and regulations with tact and courtesy.
  • Maintains professional relationships with organizations, other departments, volunteers and coworkers.
  • Reviews various reports on a regular basis to ensure accuracy of data.
  • Maintains documentation in accordance with records retention procedures as designated by the Library of Virginia Retention Schedule.
  • Assists with the reconciliation of various Roanoke County inventories.
  • Performs cleaning/disinfecting tasks as needed for the front lobby.
  • Prepares office and sanitation supply orders to maintain sufficient quantities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


EducationRequired: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Associates degree or equivalent experience.


Required: Experience providing customer service and completing data entry. General knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office.
Preferred: Supervisory experience and knowledge of Roanoke County departments, policies and procedures.
Certifications/ Licenses
Required: Valid Virginia Driver's License

Additional RequirementsSubject to a complete criminal history and Child Protective Services background search with acceptable results.
Supervises front desk staff as needed.
