Material Handler
Position Summary:
Loads and moves materials within or near a plant, yard, or work site by performing the following duties in accordance with standards set by Princess House.
Essential Functions:
The incumbent may be required to perform all or a combination of the following essential functions as determined by business necessity:
• Follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
• Communicates with management to relocate products.
• Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
• Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
• Utilizes Warehouse Management System to fill requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, tools, or other stock items and distributes items to production workers or assembly line.
• Conveys materials and products to or from receiving or production areas to shipping line or to other designated areas.
• Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
• Secures lifting attachments to materials and conveys load to destination or forklift operators to move load to destination.
• Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet.
• Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.
• Loads trucks with a product and/or orders for shipment.
• Fills void within shipment cartons by stuffing with paper or other specified available material assuring restricted movement of product within carton.
• Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together.
• Clamps sections of portable conveyor together or places conveyor sections on blocks or boxes to facilitate movement of materials or products.
• Lifts heavy objects by hand or with power hoist, and cleans work area, machines, and equipment to assist machine operators.
• Makes simple adjustments such as realigning conveyor belts.
• Operates hand truck hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
• Assures work area is clean and orderly by sweeping, picking up trash, dusting. Properly dispose empty cartons, paper and tape rolls, tape, etc.
• Performs the duties of at least one other position as directed by supervisor.

In addition to the essential functions listed above, the incumbent may be required to perform other non-essential functions. Employees are required to follow any other job-related instructions and to perform any other job-related duties requested by their supervisor.

Level of Supervision Received:
Under immediate supervision, performs specifically assigned tasks only as instructed, subject to a regular check of performance, as necessary.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Technical Skills, Certificates, and/or Licenses:
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Language Skills:
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Environmental Factors and/or Physical Demands:
General warehouse environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. The employee is also frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
