Spay/Neuter Veterinarian

Pet Pantry is looking to add to our team. We are a well-respected 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded on the premise that no one should need to surrender a pet due to financial concerns. We provide our community with a lower cost high volume spay/neuter clinic, monthly lower cost vaccine clinics, and weekly TNR clinics. We are looking for a veterinarian interested in helping us make this, and more, possible.
Pet Pantry recently finished a complete remodel of our surgical wing to increase efficiency and provide a Fear Free environment for our patients. Our clinic has:
- In-house radiographs
- Dental equipment including dental x-ray
- In-house lab testing
- Handheld, portable ultrasound
- Veterinary practice software
Overview: As a veterinarian at Pet Pantry of Lancaster County, your primary role will be:
- Spay and neuter surgeries
- TNR surgeries
- monthly vaccine clinics
- Specialty surgeries for pet owners in need of our assistance. These procedures include, but are not limited to, pyometra, enucleation, entropion, leg amputations, wound repair, and foreign body removal.
- Reports to both CEO and Medical Director
Requirements:
- Licensed DVM/VMD in Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
- Hold or obtain certification in CPR and Basic Life Support
- Hold or able to hold a DEA license
Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Perform physical examinations on all patients at the time of check-in and address concerns with the owner
- Maintain physical examination records on all animals scheduled for surgery
- Record all pre-surgical pharmaceuticals used for surgery
- Evaluate pre-surgical blood results and contact the pet owners if any concerns arise
- Lead the surgical team in keeping the patient flow professional and efficient
- Lead practice drills for anesthetic and surgical emergencies with the team
- Administer vaccines at monthly lower cost or free clinics held both onsite and offsite
- Address client concerns in conjunction with the appropriate management personnel
- Attend relevant conferences to maintain Continuing Education credits required by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
The Surgical Requirements:
- Perform surgery for 4-8 hours daily
- Limit anesthesia time to less than 1 hour per patient to limit risks
- Maintain surgical records on all patients
- Perform subcuticular closures and scoring tattoos
- Follow HQHVSN techniques for spay/neuter (including cryptorchid castrations)
- Be prepared to handle surgical emergencies in a calm and effective manner
- Perform post-operative evaluations on patients prior to discharge
- Prescribe post-operative medication and other pharmaceuticals deemed necessary for surgical patients
