OVERVIEW
New River Valley Community Services is the public provider of behavioral health services to residents of the New River Valley. Established in 1969, NRVCS serves the counties of Floyd, Giles, Montgomery and Pulaski, and the City of Radford. NRVCS offers community-based programs for both children and adults who are living with mental illness, developmental disabilities and/or substance use disorders.
RESPONSIBILITIES
New River Valley Community Services is hiring for Intensive Program Clinicians in one or more of the following programs:
• Mobile Crisis Services are direct interventions to individuals with a primary diagnosis of a mental illness being served by NRVCS who are experiencing serious psychiatric or behavioral problems which jeopardize their current community placement. The goals of mobile crisis are to provide temporary intensive services and supports to prevent emergency psychiatric hospitalization, institutional admission, or other out of home placement; provide environments with a high assurance of safety and security; and mobilize the resources of the community support system and family members and others for ongoing rehabilitation. The intent is to stabilize the individual and to strengthen the current living environment so the individual can be maintained during and beyond the crisis period. Mobile crisis is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with rapid response to the individual and community.
• New Horizons is a Crisis Stabilization Unit, or CSU. Crisis stabilization services are provided to individuals age 18 or older, regardless of insurance. Individuals are served on a voluntary basis or under TDO (Temporary Detention Order) and commitment orders. Crisis stabilization services typically last up to 15 days, with the average stay at New Horizons lasting between 5 and 7 days. Services are provided within a residential setting. Individuals receive group and individual counseling, case management, and psychiatric services while admitted to the program. Individuals will be monitored for safety while at the facility. Individuals will also maintain daily living activities such as cooking, laundry, and self-care.
• Intensive in-home services is a community based service for children and adolescents under the age of 21 provided in the individual's residence with the focus of stabilization and prevention of out of home placement or hospitalization. Intensive in home clinicians provide therapeutic interventions focused on the individual and their ability to cope with stressors in their lives, as well as the family to assess family dynamics and to improve overall family functioning. An in home clinician would provide both individual counseling and interventions as well as have dedicated weekly family sessions focused on family interventions and therapy.
• KPACT program was designed in order to duplicate this intense service for children and adolescents at risk for removal from their homes; children with treatment needs that surpass the typical therapeutic offerings of NRVCS. Each KPACT case involves wrap-around services individualized to meet the specific needs of each child and family. Contact with the child occurs on a daily basis and parental involvement is the first goal on all KPACT service plans. The overall purpose is to provide contact with the child to better ensure stability while providing any and all services necessary for his/her treatment. This program is not intended to replace the individual programs of Mental Health Supports, In-Home Services, or Case Management; but is instead intended to serve those children who may need multiple layers of these services in order to remain in the community.
• Claremont Therapeutic Day Treatment program provides a structured day time program to school aged clients who have been placed on homebound educational instruction. Through daily treatment interventions, clients learn the skills needed to be more successful in the school and community settings. Claremont TDT staff work within a team to provide individual and group therapeutic sessions focused on developing coping skills, improving peer interactions, complying with requests from adults, and engaging in prosocial activities. Additionally, staff assist with completing assessments, providing care coordination for clients, collaborating with family members and school staff, and providing transportation to and from the program daily.
• REACH works as part of the REACH Team to provide direct clinical supports for the Virginia Region III REACH Program. Position is responsible for completing assessments and development of individualized service plans. Also provides training for individuals, families and caregivers in the array of therapeutic interventions and tools needed to help individuals with developmental disabilities and co-occurring behavioral health needs to live successfully in the community. Must be able to work a flexible schedule. Some overnight and weekend crisis on-call supports is required as this is a 24/7 program.
• PACT provides clinical services within the PACT Team (Program for Assertive Community Treatment Team) working with individuals diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness in their community to support recovery and increased independent living. Responsibilities will include providing community based services to individuals and coordinating supports among providers to increase overall functioning within the community. Schedule has some flexibility but must be available to work some weekend and evenings due to this being a 24/7 program.
