Job Description:
The Department of Education and Counseling in the College of Education and Human Services invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Early Childhood Education (#F0111) to begin August 2021 at our off-site location in Martinsville, VA. The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Early Childhood Education (ECE) is an innovative new 2+2 program designed for students who have completed the Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Development through the Virginia Community College System. ECE students can pursue the licensure track, to be dually licensed as early/elementary teachers (PreK-3rd grade) and early childhood special education teachers (birth-age five), or the non-licensure track. Recruitment of students and coordinating a variety of student supports will be an important component of this position.
Applicants should demonstrate knowledge of best practices when working with children birth through age eight in inclusive settings; a commitment to excellence and innovation in undergraduate teaching, including a passion for working with post-traditional students; an interest in developing partnerships with local school divisions, agencies, and community colleges; and evidence of scholarship in the form of research and/or presentations at the local, state, or national level.
Requirements:
The successful candidate will possess an earned doctorate in early childhood education or a related field (PhD or EdD; ABD will be considered) with at least three years of birth to eight teaching experience, and a current teaching license in early childhood special education. Dual licensure in PreK-3 or PreK-6 is preferred. Experience teaching college-level courses and supervising student teachers in the field is also preferred. A demonstrated ability and commitment to working with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and constituents in support of the university mission is preferred.
