Come join our team!! King County Fleet Services is looking for a leader for our Inventory Purchasing Specialist 3 (IPS 3) position. This position is responsible for purchasing inventory and services along with working closely with Heavy Duty technicians supporting a fleet of heavy duty trucks and construction equipment and serves as leads to plan and organize work unit’s schedule, oversee stores staff, coordinate assignments and tasks, and deliver training.
SCOPE OF JOB DUTIES: In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must demonstrate skill and abilty at a minimum to:- Coordinate the work of Stores parts room for a heavy-duty truck shop. This includes overseeing inventoried stock as well as special orders and assisting with storeroom coverage during staff absences or during times of heavy customer demand.
- Research vendor sources, obtain price quotes, and select vendors for standard and specialized part and material purchases.
- Serve as lead to stores employees. Train employees in other IPS classification levels in buying functions, new concepts, new or changing software, new or changing laws, and procedures. Help develop work unit goals, objectives, and projections.
- Safely operate electric and/or fuel powered forklifts, or other handling devices to load/unload deliveries. Ensure staff use personnel protection equipment in a safe manner, and that staff members are following all safety rules and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Are able to demonstrate great people leadership. Feel comfortable managing conflict and understands how to build an effective team.
- Have strong experience in reading hydraulic and electrical schematics and communicate with Heavy Duty technicians at a technical level.
- Are able to demonstrate complete use and understanding of fleet maintenance, repair processes, shop work orders and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Are able to participate with technicians in troubleshooting issues by using technical drawings including vehicle electrical diagrams and other vehicle-related drawings for medium and heavy duty trucks and construction equipment.
- Are comfortable using Oracle and Microsoft Office with ease.
- Understand federal, state, and local requirements related to safety regulations, hazardous material handling and storage.
This positon is open to King County Employees only. A King County Application is required to be considered.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: The successful candidate must:
Possess a Washington State Driver License: Employees must maintain a valid Washington State Driver License at all times.
Pass a pre-employment physical exam: Employees must have the ability to work on uneven slopes, surfaces, grades and terrain in inclement weather and other adverse conditions such as noise, dust and traffic. The ability to lift a minimum of twenty-five (25) pounds and be able to climb a variety of stairs.
ForkLift Certification: Possess or be able to obtain a forklift certification within six (6) months of hire is required.
Union membership: Position is represented by Joint Units Agreement (JUA), Local 117 International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
Typical Work Schedule: The standard work week is 40 hours/week, Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. This position is full-time and is overtime eligible. Shifts may be adjusted to meet customer or seasonal requirements. During serious weather conditions or other emergencies, shift hours may change to work 12 hours on and 12 hours off, seven days a week. Employees are required to come in to work during snow and ice events.
