James Madison University is seeking a highly motivated, customer-service focused individual to lead Information Technology's Computing Support department. This critical IT department is responsible for many of the customer-facing aspects of IT including the Computing HelpDesk, Desktop and Endpoint management, computing labs and technology training. The Director is responsible for working with IT senior management to develop the strategy for computing support by setting vision in alignment with IT, Administration and Finance and the university's strategic plans, providing leadership, management and ensuring continuous improvement of technology support services. This position reports to the CIO/Assistant Vice President for Information Technology.
Duties include
• Direct, manage and oversee the Help Desk, desktop and endpoint management, computing labs and technology training.
• Supervise, develop, recruit and retain Computing Support staff.
• Develop, communicate and implement support services in conjunction with IT and other areas of the university.
• Collaborate with other IT directors and key stakeholders from across the university.
• Provide leadership for technology projects involving technology staff from IT and across the university.
• Serve on the IT senior management team, providing leadership and strategic direction for Information Technology.
• Research existing and new technologies and make recommendations on how they might be leveraged to support our mission.
• Develop and assure the department is following best practices and standards.
This position is a university administrative and professional position and successful candidates are required to have the following qualifications:
• Master's degree in a technology-related discipline, business administration, information systems or a related area.
• Extensive relevant experience in technology-related customer service including design and use of a service management system.
• Extensive experience managing technology staff.
• Demonstrated experience in budget development and monitoring, contracting and vendor management.
• Demonstrated experience of strong analytical problem identification and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, complex, technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to embrace and demonstrate IT's values of continuous improvement, collaboration, and excellence. Demonstrated organizational skills, flexibility, good judgement, teamwork, attention to detail, problem-solving, life-long learning, sense of humor and initiative.
The following qualifications are preferred:
• Relevant experience working in a higher education setting.
• Relevant experience with software licensing negotiations.
• Demonstrated experience following Information Technology standards and best practices. (ISO 27002, NIST)
