Position and Qualifications
Hollins University is proud to have a highly diverse student body, and we are seeking to recruit and retain outstanding faculty who exhibit a clear commitment to diversity and inclusion. We invite applications from writers with book publication in fiction (or under contract) and some publication or experience in poetry, nonfiction, or hybrid forms to teach multi-genre creative writing and literature at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
For full consideration, candidates must have an M.F.A. or Ph.D. in hand at time of appointment, evidence of ongoing creative work and accomplishment, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The successful candidate will bring a multicultural perspective to the teaching of engaged graduate and undergraduate students at all levels. Teaching load is six courses per year. Other duties include advising students, participating in department and university service, supporting our reading series as a committed literary citizen, ongoing creative work, and active participation in campus-wide faculty governance.
Preferred candidates will have experience teaching both creative and critical writing and a strong commitment to teaching excellence and innovation at a women's college and liberal arts institution.
With 14 faculty members, the Department of English and Creative Writing, which houses the Jackson Center for Creative Writing, is a collaborative department with interconnected literature and creative writing programs. The department offers a B.A. in English with concentrations in multicultural literature, creative writing, and literature and performance; a B.A. in Creative Writing; and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing. In addition to the Hollins Critic, the department houses the annual publication of the Children's Literature Association Children's Literature, and three student-produced publications including Cargoes (literary magazine), Gravel (focus on multicultural writing), and The Cyborg Griffin (speculative fiction).
