About the Position
Working in the Intersectionality in the Social Mind Lab, the Research Associate assists on an NSF-funded project that takes an intersectional perspective on children's social categorization. This position is a one year, fixed-term appointment. The preferred start date is July 1, 2024.

Primary Responsibilities

The Research Associate will primarily be responsible for all aspects of the funded research project:
  • Interview adults, preschoolers, and school-aged children (which requires weekend work)
  • Collect and analyze data from large-scale surveys
  • Create and maintain community partnerships
  • Design testing instruments for both adults and children
  • Train and supervise undergraduate research assistants
  • Cultivate a team orientation
  • Foster a high degree of professionalism among lab members
  • Work with school and museum administrators
  • Maintain compliance with the University IRB
  • Manage participant recruitment
  • Maintain the lab website
  • Purchase materials
  • Develop and maintain lab procedures
  • Maintain a participant calendar scheduling system
  • Prepare presentations and materials for meetings
  • Screen and prioritize mail (including email)
  • Draft correspondence and other documents
  • Initiate and edit reports, including financial reports
Line of Report: The Research Associate reports to Ryan Lei, Assistant Professor of Psychology.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology or a related field within cognitive science
Professional Competencies
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Attention to detail is crucial
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year or more of relevant research experience, including conducting research with children
  • Programming experience (e.g., Javascript)
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis (especially in R)
  • Prior experience providing support in a lab environment

Special Requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain PA Act 12 background checks
  • Possession of a valid U.S. Drivers' License and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record Check
