Assistant Professor, Sociology
The Department of Sociology and the Program in Education, Inquiry and Justice at Georgetown University invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will maintain a tenure-line home in the Department of Sociology and contribute to the teaching and research missions of both programs.
The Department of Sociology is comprised of twelve tenure-line faculty members and two full-time, non-tenure-line faculty members. The department is currently building strengths in urban sociology, social inequality, race and ethnicity, and culture and religion. Many faculty members are involved in other programs across the University, including the Program on Justice and Peace, the African-American Studies program, the Asian Studies program, the American Studies program and the Urban & Regional Planning program.
The Program in Education, Inquiry and Justice is an interdisciplinary program that focuses on the nexus of education and social justice. The program anchors the study of education and teaching in the liberal arts tradition; models and integrates active, engaged pedagogy; and facilitates rich, community-based opportunities for undergraduates in preK-12 environments. The program develops students' ability to critically examine the intersection of education and society and connects students with the local DC community and the broader public discourse on equity and education while examining the historical and contemporary social context, policy, research, and practices of education in the US.
