Instructional Designer and Technology (IDT) Specialist
Ferrum College is seeking applications for an Instructional Designer and Technology (IDT) Specialist. The IDT Specialist will work with faculty to provide support in building online courses and provide faculty training and professional development in best practices of online teaching and distance education. The IDT Specialist will work collaboratively with the Ferrum College community and report directly to the Dean of Graduate and Online Education Studies. The IDT Specialist will also provide instructional and some technical support for the College LMS.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Provide support for the College LMS.
• Provides pedagogical and creative support for faculty through consulting and providing relevant instructional methods and technologies for all teaching settings (face-to-face, hybrid, and online).
• Assists faculty and staff in the educational design, production, and implementation of learner-centered courses, including instructional materials in varied formats.
• Engages in professional development to stay current on learning theories and pedagogical/technological developments.
• Researches and shares current trends and exercises informed judgment and recommends new instructional opportunities for the College.
• Provides leadership and support for initiatives that enhance student learning through integration of technology and learning in both face-to-face and online situations.
Job Qualifications:
• Master's Degree in Instructional Design or a related field.
• 1-2 years experience of related experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
• Experience using D2L/Brightspace or similar LMS.
• Knowledge and experience with instructional design and applying appropriate media to instructional situations.
• Strong oral and written and communication skills
• Prior experience providing training and support to faculty, staff, and students
• Ability to work with multiple deadlines and multiple projects simultaneously
