Summary Position
As part of our SACSCOC accreditation process, Elon University has developed a 5-year Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) focused on enhancing our students' data competency knowledge and skills. To provide the critical infrastructure for the plan, Elon is creating a campus Data Nexus to serve as a coordinating hub for data competency initiatives at Elon during the 5-year plan and beyond.
The Director of the Data Nexus will work with a Faculty Advisory Committee and collaborate with a range of campus partners to:
- coordinate the implementation of the 5-year QEP and new, related initiatives,
- support student learning for data-oriented assignments and projects,
- connect and elevate existing data-intensive initiatives and programs,
- provide and support professional development opportunities for faculty research and pedagogical development around data competency, and
- assess the ongoing success of the QEP and maintain a strong feedback loop to measure and continue to enhance student learning and data competency.
Qualified applicants may also have the opportunity to teach 1-2 courses per year, after the first year.

- Doctorate in an academic discipline preferred, master’s degree holders with substantial experience in data analytics or data science will be considered
- Knowledge of data analytics and/or data science and evidence-based practices in teaching data literacy and data competency.
- Demonstrated evidence of using qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods.
- Demonstrated knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical tools for analyzing datasets.
- Ability to work successfully with various constituencies, communicate findings effectively to diverse audiences, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with faculty and academic colleagues.
- Experience teaching at the college/university level.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and interest in promoting sound pedagogical practices.
- Knowledge of outcomes-based approach to student learning and assessment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- Strong organizational skills and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience in a data-intensive industry and/or knowledge of employment trends for working with qualitative and quantitative data.
- Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) about QEP initiatives and standards through SACSCOC or similar regional accreditation preferred.

General Purpose of Position
The full-time Director will work in close collaboration with campus partners who focus on student learning support, faculty development, and on data competency, including the developing STEM Center and the Center for Organizational Analytics, among other centers and data-intensive programs. The Director will help faculty and departments design courses and academic experiences to enhance student learning of foundational data literacy skills as well as more advanced data competency working with quantitative and qualitative data.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
