Summary Position
Responsibilities:Elon University's Student Professional Development Center (SPDC) is pleased to announce this fellowship position beginning Thursday, August 3rd, 2023. The individual selected for this full-time, 10-month position will focus on student-athletes and students majoring in the School of Communications and assist in various aspects of operations including:
(1) Support one on one career advising appointments for student-athletes and selected majors (Communications & Sport Management) (50%)(2) Collaborate with Elon Athletics & School of Communications to implement professional development programming involving employers and alumni (20%)(3) Support SPDC initiatives, including in-person and virtual programs and events; drop-in hours; classroom/student organizations presentations; and marketing efforts, while showing an interest in supporting the diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the office (15%)(4) Assist with alumni tracking and employer engagement to promote and identify internship/full-time opportunities for student-athletes (5%)(5) Track and monitor office engagement, internship placement, and career outcomes of current student athletes and alumni (5%)(6) Build relationships with offices/departments across campus, including Residence Life and Academic Advising, and lead career programming initiatives that align with professional interests to further support the work of the SPDC (5%)
The fellow will receive $1,600.00 monthly, university housing, and a meal stipend. The meal stipend can be used at on-campus dining locations and multiple off-campus dining, grocery, and retail locations in the Elon/Burlington area. The fellow is also granted funds for professional development and opportunities for personal and professional growth, such as assessment training, and if selected, the opportunity to participate in service-learning programs. Please Note: Elon University does not provide health insurance for the fellowship, however acute care services are available for free through Elon's Faculty and Staff Wellness Clinic.

This team includes 20 individuals eager to do everything possible to support Elon students. The Career Advising Fellow (Athletics & Communications) will report to the Assistant Director of Career Services for the School of Communications and work from the main SPDC office in the Moseley Center. This position will serve as a natural bridge between the SPDC resources offered to student-athletes and students in the School of Communications.As a Fellow, you will work closely with the Assistant Director of Career Services for Student Athletes and the careers team in the School of Communications. Student-athlete advising takes place in a satellite office of the SPDC located in the Koury Athletics Center. The Communications careers team is also located in a satellite office (nicknamed “the COM Pod”) in the School of Communications. The Career Advising Fellow will report to the Assistant Director of Career Services for the School of Communications and have a point person in Athletics for training and questions. Though the Career Fellow will have their own office and work out of the main SPDC in the Moseley Center, they will also frequently work on-site in both the Com Pod and in the Koury Athletics Center. The Career Fellow will participate in the Com Pod team meetings and meet with the Assistant Director of Career Services for Student Athletes to gain knowledge specific to communication students and student-athletes and to support programming and events in these areas.The Elon Phoenix NCAA Division I athletic program consists of 17 varsity sports. As a member of the Colonial Athletic Association, Elon has nearly 400 student-athletes who compete for the Maroon and Gold. The campus is 40-50 minutes from Raleigh/Durham, 25 minutes from Greensboro, and 2 hours from Charlotte.The School of Communications brings together 1,400 students and more than 80 faculty and staff, creating a vibrant learning environment that has propelled it to be one of the nation's great communications schools. Elon also is the leader in the “Programs to Look For” feature - the only college or university ranked in the top 20 in all eight categories of academic programs linked to student success and positive learning outcomes.

Upon starting the fellowship, candidates must have completed their graduate degree in a related field such as counseling, higher education administration, sport management, student development, or human resources. Candidates must be able to commit to the full 10-month appointment to begin in August, including committing to living accommodations on-campus. Successful applicants must possess outstanding communication skills (interpersonal, written, and oral), the ability to effectively multi-task, strong attention to detail, a passion for learning, and a strong customer service orientation.
