Summary Position
This position manages the Automotive Service and Transportation Department at Elon University with 28 employees. Primary responsibilities include management of the Biobus operations (including on- demand shuttles and personal drivers), the E-ride program, the fuel purchasing and tracking program (gasoline and bio-diesel for all university vehicles), and the maintenance, repair, inspections, and registrations of more 220 licensed vehicles and 200 pieces of equipment.

General Purpose of Position
This position manages the Automotive Service and Transportation Department at Elon University with 28 employees. Primary responsibilities include management of the University’s public transit operations (including on-demand shuttles and personal drivers), the maintenance, repair, inspections and registrations of more 220 licensed vehicles and 200 pieces of equipment. the fuel purchasing and management programs (gasoline and bio-diesel).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Direct the work of the Automotive Services through the shop foreman and 3 mechanics Provide tools, training and equipment for the automotive personnel to carry their duties out in the maintenance, repair, inspection and registration of more 220 licensed vehicles and 200 pieces of equipment Manage the preventative maintenance program for University.
Manage the purchasing of automotive equipment parts and tires for inventory. Inspect and review work in progress to insure maintenance procedures are performed correctly in the absence of the shop foreman. Instruct train, and advise mechanics on the work off gas and diesel engines, hydraulics and metal fabrication jobs.
Coordinate with the office of the V.P. for Business/Finance and Technology to manage vehicle Insurance and NC vehicle registration for all university vehicles.
Manage the daily operations of the Biobus and E-ride system, plans Biobus mutes and schedules, hire and supervise 21 drivers and the Transportation support technician. Manage the NextBus tracking system and organize bus charter requests. Responds to students questions or concerns about the Biobus system and works with the Vice-President of Student Life’s office regarding such questions or proposed changes. Coordinates with the Moseley Carta Director to manage the Moseley van fleet.
Interact with the President’s office to managing ground transportation needs for the President, swim staff and visiting guests and dignitaries of the University.
Interact with the Associate Athletics Director’s office to manage the Athletic department’s vehicle fleet and providing bus transportation for the sports teams as needed.
Manage the University’s on-campus fuel depot, the fuel card data, the fleet maintenance software and manages the fuel charge-beck system with the Accounting Department.
Oversee the North Carolina State Vehicle Emission Inspection Program for University vehicles.
Prepares vehicle replacement plans for the entire University fleet. Prepares bid specifications and recommendations for purchasing and sale of vehicles and equipment.
Manages and directs the training program for university operators of forklifts, aerial lifts, buses and utility carts.
Maintain equipment and appliances within North Carolina State Inspection laws and Occupational Safety and Health regulations.
