Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
• Always do the right thing.
• Promotes the vision, mission and values of the County.
• Responsible for design, install, administration, and daily support of Microsoft SQL Server environment including migrations and backups.
• Troubleshooting application interface issues
• Responsible for monitoring database performance and optimization
• Responsible for software and database upgrades in coordination with clients and vendor support
• Designs, develops, installs, and maintains applications, reports and data analysis
• Identifies opportunities that would facilitate the effectiveness of County processes and public services
• Responsible for configuring, testing, and deploying hardware such as credit card readers, etc.
• Acts as support responding to incidents and service request to investigate user problems and needs, identify their source, and determine possible solutions
• Participate in the development, implementation, installation, and testing of applications software.
• Responsible for serving as a project manager, as needed, for all software installations/upgrades and rollouts including user training programs.
• Works closely with System Engineer, Systems Analyst, and Help Desk to ensure applications are working as expected and help provide input and end-user support as needed.
• Vendor liaison for all Botetourt County application software packages as assigned
• Produces and maintains documentation relating to routine software administration and end-user manuals for both in-house developed applications as well as for vendor purchased application.
• Responsible for service transition artifacts within knowledge base to assist service desk team members provide quicker resolution to end-users.
• Works closely with software vendors to achieve efficient and sustainable solutions to complex problems and challenges and to ensure that Botetourt County is in compliance with all of the software license agreements from the various vendors
• Performs other related technical duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
• Associate Degree in Business Information Systems or related technical field.
• 3 years of current professional experience or combination of education and professional experience, required
• Current certification in Microsoft SQL Server, preferred.
• Extensive knowledge in support/troubleshooting background in Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft SQL Reporting Services, and Crystal reports, required.
• Extensive knowledge of programming languages, including SQL queries, ASP.net, HTML, VBA, VB, and any .net related languages, preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills that will transpose into instruction to end users of all levels and skills in the development of productive and efficient use of Botetourt County applications.
• Excellent interpersonal skills are required to fulfill Level II help desk support.
• Ability to work after-hours to complete project work is a requirement
• Must be able to work in teams or individually when required; be able to conduct thorough technical research; and be able to complete tasks according to defined requirements and timelines.
• Will participate in on-call rotation.
Physical Demands/Special Work Environment:
• Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
• Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• Frequently positions themselves at, below, or above ground level to perform required technical work.
• The person in this position frequently communicates and exchanges information with colleagues and County personnel on detailed technical instruction. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
• Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading and analyzing.
• Worker must be able to remain at workstation in a stationary position for up to 50% of the time.
• The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to attend meetings; access files, office machines; to interact with County employees.
Internal Botetourt County candidates must maintain a satisfactory non-probationary position of no less than 12 months as an Application Support Analyst I to be considered for promotion.
