Peer Recovery Coach
Have you received treatment services for substance use and are looking for an opportunity to mentor others?
Recovery Coaches are people living in recovery from substance use and who provide support to others whom can benefit from their lived experiences. No experience necessary! The Recovery Coach functions as a fully integrated member of the team to provide expertise about the recovery process, symptom management, and the persistence required by clients to have a satisfying life.
This position pays $10.50/hour.
The schedule for this position is Full Time, Mon-Fri. Staff will need to be available to work at least one evening per week until 8 pm.
Recovery Peer Coaches work in a team culture that recognizes, understands and respects each client's point of view, experiences, and preferences. The peer specialist is responsible for maximizing client choice, self-determination and decision-making for services. They provide peer counseling to clients, families and team staff; act as a liaison with other BRBH programs and community resources; assist in education, and provide crisis intervention under the clinical supervision of staff.
Applicant Requirements:
1. Have personally experienced a substance disorder and a minimum of 12 months in sustained recovery from alcohol and other drugs. Please include a cover letter explaining your interest in the position.
2. Personal experience in working a 12-step recovery program. Must be a recipient of substance disorder services, and has acquired and uses the skills for chronic disease management.
3. Knowledge & Skills:
- Knowledge of substance related disorders, trauma-informed approaches to services, and community resources.
- Communication skills
- Ability to work with persons in recovery and ability to establish supportive trusting relationships.
- Possess ability to recognize and adjust practice and services to cultural and ethnic differences.
4. Education: High school diploma or GED required.
5. Driver's License: This position requires driving agency vehicles and transporting clients. Unrestricted Virginia Driver's license and a good driving record, which means no more than two moving violations (speeding, etc) in the last three years and no criminal violations (DUI, reckless driving) in the last five years.
