Position Summary
The Web Content Assistant position provides an opportunity to develop relevant skills in web content design, creation and editing while supporting the web and marketing goals of departments in the Office of Public Relations and Marketing. Projects will be determined on an ongoing basis by the PR/Marketing staff based on experience and current needs. The Web Content Assistant will be expected to develop new skills during employment.
Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and edit content in HTML/or CMS for departmental and program web sites following established style guidelines.
- Use of customer service skills such as professional writing and verbal communication to assist faculty, staff, and students.
- Effectively communicate web and brand standards through web content creation.
- Prepare photos for use on the division web site by cropping, resizing or modifying with Adobe Photoshop.
- Create PDF documents using Adobe Acrobat and other tools.
- Create user documentation for new and existing projects.
- Work on additional writing tasks and other duties that support department needs and divisional processes.
- Create, edit and upload videos to the web using Adobe Premiere, Photoshop or comparable program.
- Create and share Google Analytics reports.
- Assist campus CMS editors with troubleshooting, training, and answering Web Requests in the TeamDynamix ticketing portal.
- Assist Campus Webmaster with training sessions and communications regarding CMS.
- Assist with additional responsibilities on the web, as assigned by PR/Marketing staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to effectively communicate web and brand standards through web content creation. The skills necessary are quality writing skills and the ability to use content management system to publish.
- Knowledge of basic photo and video capture and editing, including proficiency in Adobe suite products, such as Photoshop and Premiere.
- Knowledge of web content management systems and a basic understanding of web structure. Skills required are the ability to navigate basic web-based folder system, basic HTML, and CSS.
- Knowledge of content and project organization through use of spreadsheets and project management software. Skills required are proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google documents.
- Ability to prioritize and effectively use time management skills.
Physical Requirements
- Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Required Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree with preferences in Communications, Marketing, Business, Art/Graphic Design, Computer Science, or related fields.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Experience with style guides, copywriting and online editing.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and web content management.
- Understanding of basic HTML, CSS, Google Analytics, Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, or comparable applications.
