Public Engagement Coordinator
Apex Clean Energy is currently seeking a Public Engagement Coordinator who will provide our Public Engagement Team with administrative and project support.
This role will assist the Public Engagement Team with a variety of tasks, including conducting data entry and maintenance and website updates in Nationbuilder; creating and managing grassroots outreach campaigns in Phone2Action; submitting funding approval requests; assisting with planning and managing events at local project-sites; researching and purchasing advertising space in local media; communicating with local stakeholders by phone; and representing Apex along with other team members at various business, government, and community meetings and events. The ideal candidate for the Public Engagement Coordinator position will also be able to assist with writing and editing communications materials for print and electronic media, conducting research in support of the team's needs, serving graphic design needs, and drafting responses regarding common renewable energy inquiries. The coordinator must demonstrate exceptional project coordination skills, be capable of meeting numerous simultaneous deadlines, possess excellent communication skills, be highly responsible and accountable, and adhere to the highest standards of accuracy and quality in his/her work.
The Coordinator will report directly to the Director of Public Engagement and work closely with the entire Public Engagement Team, members of the Project Development Team, and local land agents, as needed.
Previous experience in event planning, political campaigns, public relations, or public affairs is a plus but not necessary. We are looking for a candidate who is self-motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills but who is willing to learn and gain experience in communications, marketing, local government processes, organizing, events, and the renewable energy industry. Candidates who possess problem solving and analysis skills, as well as a strong personal commitment to renewable energy, business, and/or rural economic development will be well-suited for this role.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Enter and maintain data in various databases and systems including but not limited to NationBuilder, Smartsheets, and Phone2Action
- Provide assistance on event planning and coordination for community events taking place across our project-portfolio
- At times represent Apex Clean Energy at various business, government, and community meetings and events
- Support Public Engagement Managers in keeping projects on track and promptly responding to new demands as necessary
- Research and draft and edit one-pagers, infographics, presentations, and reports for strategic outreach and communications projects
- Draft and update talking points related to frequently-arising community issues
- Draft letters of support for renewable energy for various audiences
- Design and maintain processes to make it easy to collect the information needed to complete the tasks above efficiently and accurately
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in political science, public relations, communications, or a related field is desired.
- Passion for working in communications, public affairs, community organizing.
- Extraordinary planning and organizational skills with highly developed research and writing skills.
- Self-starter, flexible, able to run with assigned tasks. Deadline-oriented and collaborative by nature.
- Ability to be highly responsive and willing to work flexible hours, if needed. Apex acts quickly, and being able to adapt to changing internal and external conditions is extremely important.
- Likewise, an ability to manage shifting assignments and multiple projects at the same time is a must.
- Demonstrated leadership and relationship management skills.
- Ability to take part in collaborative efforts with peers and colleagues.
- Interest for renewable energy.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and quick learner in other software platforms, including Smartsheet, Esker, Phone2Action, and NationBuilder.
- Experience with or interest in learning how to complete basic assigments in Adobe Design Suite.

- Exemplary standards of honor, ethics, quality, communication, and productivity.
- Ability to work actively and productively with limited supervision.
- Must be willing to work from our headquarters in Charlottesville, VA or our office just outside of Minneapolis, MN.
